Brooke Roberts

Brooke Roberts label explores and demonstrates the link between science and design. The collections are developed and created in Italy from the highest technology machinery and materials.
A visionary in the use of medical images as surface design, Brooke programmes her knitwear from x-rays and CT scans, body-mapping and contouring to achieve striking graphic effects through colour and texture. With several years' experience creating knitwear in Italy, she mixes yarns to great technical effect. Her knitwear combines cashmere, wool, cotton, silk, techno-plastic, metallic and retro-reflective yarns.

AW11 'Calibration'

An investigation of x-ray calibration films,
geometry and greyscales, 'Calibration' combines Italian knitting craftsmanship with luxury and new technology yarns.
Utilizing camel hair, cashmere, extra fine wool boucle', silk and 3-M retroflective yarn, it is the ultimate fusion of high-tech luxe.

Hand-crafted wood and perspex accessories were created in collaboration with Eye of the World, London.

SS11 'Cuts'

Inspired by CT scans and medical imaging.
'Cuts' explores the varying opacity and transparency of X-ray anatomy.
Created in Italy using the highest technology Jacquard and Tubular knitting techniques,
the collection embodies contemporary design.
A superior yarn selection coupled with this innovative knitting technology ensures a superb luxury finish.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty at the costume institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art N.Y.C

One of the most compelling items in this particular gallery is an ensemble that’s made out of duck feathers dyed black, which gives the impression of a raven. A raven was a romantic symbol of death. It’s an item that’s very melancholic but also very romantic at the same time. It came from a collection called The Horn of Plenty. And The Horn of Plenty was a collection that was very much inspired by the 1950s haute couture.

This corset was inspired by the coiled necklaces of the Ndebele people of southern Africa. McQueen gave jeweler Shaun Leane the daunting task of transforming the necklace into a corset.
